Can you soak a gun to clean it?
You can soak your all steel firearms. Alcohol would not be the correct cleaning liquid/solvent to use though. You can make up a mixture of Mineral Spirits AKA Pure Paint Thinner/Petroleum Distillate and add a few large bottles of Hoppes #9 into that.

Can you use WD40 on shotguns?

Using an aerosol solvent simply “shoots” all the gunk into tiny crevices in your firearm, making them even harder to clean and can lead to “gumming” up.
