What is Vycor?
Vycor is the brand name of Corning’s high-silica, high-temperature glass. It provides very high thermal shock resistance. Vycor products are made by a multi-step process. First, a relatively soft alkali-borosilicate glass is melted and formed by typical glassworking techniques into the desired shape.
Will Vycor stick to concrete?
Install directly onto a clean and dry surface. Some compatible substrates include wood, plywood, oriented strand board, metal, concrete and masonry.
What is Vycor Plus used for?
VYCOR® Plus high performance self-adhered flashing membrane provides premium protection against water and air infiltration in all critical non-roof detail areas. When properly installed, it can reduce the risk of rot and mold development, often associated with costly call-backs.
Is Vycor Plus butyl?
As a non-asphaltic, butyl-modified adhesive with low temperature adhesion and high in-service temperature limits, Vycor Pro is a product for use year round in all climates. When properly installed, Vycor Pro flashing reduces the risk of mold and rot development and contributes to energy efficiency.
What is Grace Vycor made of?
Vycor® Aluminum Flashing self-adhered flashing is composed of durable, cross-laminated, high density polyethylene aluminum surfaced sheet, backed by an aggressive, pressure sensitive rubberized asphalt adhesive.
What happened Vycor glass?
It also features excellent thermal shock resistance and superior optical qualities. Recently, however, Corning discontinued Corning® Vycor® Glass, and now companies across various industries are searching for reliable alternatives.
What is window flashing tape?
Flashing tape is installed beneath your siding around your window to seal it from air and moisture, which if it gets behind the siding, can cause rot, cracking, and leaks.
What is window flashing?
Window flashing is a thin continuous piece of material that is installed to prevent water from getting into a structure from an angle or joint near windows. It is key to preventing water intrusion. It is typically used on roofs, around windows and doors, and around any opening for pipes or electrical lines.
What is butyl flashing tape?
RESISTO ALL-WEATHER BUTYL FLASHING TAPE is a self-adhesive membrane made of rubberized butyl that blocks air and water infiltration. It is easy to apply to wood, aluminum, polyethylene and PVC surfaces, as well as on air barrier membranes and exterior fibreglass gypsum.

Which type of glass is regarded as the most heat resistant?
Borosilicate glass is a type of glass with silica and boron trioxide as the main glass-forming constituents. Borosilicate glasses are known for having very low coefficients of thermal expansion (≈3 × 10−6 K−1 at 20 °C), making them more resistant to thermal shock than any other common glass.
What kind of process is used to make Vycor?
Vycor products are made by a multi-step process. First, a relatively soft alkali-borosilicate glass is melted and formed by typical glassworking techniques into the desired shape. This is heat-treated, which causes the material to separate into two intermingled “phases” with distinct chemical compositions.
What does Vycor plus self adhered flashing membrane do?
VYCOR® Plus high performance self-adhered flashing membrane provides premium protection against water and air infiltration in all critical non-roof detail areas. When properly installed, it can reduce the risk of rot and mold development, often associated with costly call-backs.
Who are the manufacturers of Vycor weather barriers?
VYCOR® weather barriers and flashing deliver robust and worry free protection for the owner, and are easy for the contractor to install. VYCOR® weather barriers and flashing tapes are made in the USA by GCP Applied Technologies, the inventors and manufacturers of Grace Ice & Water Shield®.
What do you need to know about Vycor deck protector?
Water infiltration at vulnerable window and door openings can lead to rot and mold, which can endanger both a structure and its inhabitants. Vycor® Deck Protector is a self-adhered membrane, formulated and tested to solve the problems of joist rot and deck corrosion.
